Edinburgh Zoo has an adorable new baby koala which has shown its face for the first time

Edinburgh Zoo has a new baby koala which has been captured on film peeking out of its mother's pouch for the first time.

The joey was born on July 13 to mum Alinga and dad Tanami and is expected to move from her pouch in a month or two.

It will be carried around on Alinga's back until it becomes independent at one year old.

Keepers caught a quick glimpse of the joey poking its head out of her pouch. Edinburgh Zoo is home to the UK's only Queensland koalas.

As well as being part of the international breeding programme for Queensland koalas, RZSS supports conservation projects that help koalas in the wild.
