Edinburgh weather: Temperatures to plummet to bone-chilling -6C today amid ice warnings

If you thought the last few days were bitterly cold, then you better wrap up warm if you're heading out in Edinburgh today because the weather is about to take an even chillier turn.

While temperatures have frequently passed below freezing in the last few days, the mercury is set to drop to -6C in the capital later on today.

In fact, the Met Office forecasters are predicting that temperatures aren't set to rise above freezing at all on Friday.

It's an icy start to the morning, with weather warnings in place for ice and snow across much of Scotland, including Edinburgh.

Scots are being warned to expect snow showers in parts, which will bring difficult driving conditions and possibly some disruption to travel, as well as some icy stretches

The weather warning is only in place until 12pm on Friday but temperatures are set to get even colder as we head into the afternoon.

According to BBC's weather forecasters, the temperature will rise to around zero degrees from 12-2pm before plunging as the evening rolls in.

By around 10pm this evening, locals can expect a bone-chilling temperature of -5C.

We might consider ourselves lucky, with other parts of the country expected to turn even colder on Saturday as temperatures dip to -15°C in rural areas amid warning of blizzards.
