Edinburgh Weather: City will bask in late summer sun - before temperatures plummet

What to expect from the weather in Scotland’s capital this week as Autumn sets in and the long nights draw closer.

It is set to be overcast throughout the week according to the MET office and Edinburgh residents can look forward to sporadic showers at various times throughout.

Temperatures start at 16 degrees on Monday and peak at 17 on Tuesday before they begin to slide down to 13 on Wednesday and then around 10 degrees moving into the weekend.

Single digit temperatures are expected in the morning and evening.

Wind is also expected to be a contributing factor to the temperature feeling lower on the ground for most of the week.

The week ahead:

Monday October 18 - We will see temperatures reach the lofty heights of 16 degrees - something that is pretty unheard of for mid October - with showers expected throughout the early afternoon. So do pack a brolly if you are nipping out at lunch.

Tuesday October 19 - Temperatures will rise to 17 degrees, so be sure to enjoy it, as we are unsure when they will reach such heights again before next Spring. Showers are expected in the evening with the morning and afternoon predicted to be overcast.

Wednesday October 20 - It will be partly cloudy with the sun trying to poke its head out every now and then. Showers will once again plague the lunchtime hours of the day but it is expected to dry up at night. Temperatures will peak at around 13 degrees, meaning it is time to dust off the old winter coat.

Thursday October 21 - Now this is where it gets scary with temperatures peaking at 10 degrees...yes ten. Get the thermals on as the temperature will be as low as five degrees in the morning. No rain is predicted for Thursday but cold sunny spells are in store.

Friday October 22 - Essentially the same as Thursday with the temperature lows being moderately higher.
