Edinburgh weather: BBC and Met Office forecasts hail for the city as yellow warning issued

Edinburgh has been issued a yellow weather warning. After a week of sunshine, Scotland is feeling a 'second winter' as rain, snow and hail is hitting parts of the country.

Temperatures are dropping below 0C at night and according to Met Office, it will only reach 5C at the highest today.

A yellow weather warning for ice has been issued for the east of the country, including Edinburgh.

It has been issued from 9pm tonight to 10am tomorrow (Friday April 1).

Met Office warns: "Snow and hail showers could lead to icy surfaces, with possible travel disruption."

BBC Weather forecasts hail will hit Edinburgh by 2pm today and will continue throughout the day until 7pm before temperatures drop from 4C to just 1C at 10pm.

By midnight, Edinburgh will feel the chill as we plummet to 0 and then -2 by 5am. This freezing lows will likely bring with it ice for the morning and drivers are being urged to take care when travelling and expect travel disruption.

According to Met Office today we can expect: "A frosty but sunny start across Dumfries, Galloway and western Lothian. However wintry showers, falling mainly as hail and, away from the coast, snow develop more widely for the afternoon and may become heavy at times. Cold, mainly northerly breeze. Maximum temperature 7 °C."

For tonight: "Wintry showers soon become confined to the eastern Borders this evening with largely clear skies developing elsewhere. With winds becoming mainly light a widespread frost is expected. Minimum temperature -4 °C".

And with a cold start on Friday, the weather forecasters add: "Wintry showers in east soon dying out. Otherwise, a frosty start to a largely sunny morning but cloud and outbreaks of rain and hill snow, spread south in the afternoon. Maximum temperature 8 °C."
