Edinburgh vegan café Plant Bae set to reopen in new premises soon

A popular Edinburgh vegan cafe looks set to open new premises.

The City of Edinburgh Council validated a proposal from Plant Bae on October 28 to open a new cafe.

The eatery had to shut their premises at Haymarket Terrace this year but have been selling their vegan treats at other cafes across the city.

Their treats can currently be purchased at @gramsedinburgh, @littlefitzroy, @toastleith,@artisancoffee_edinburgh, @the_source_coffee_co, @wanderlustedinburgh, @uplandsroast, and @urbanangel_cafe.

Now they have applied to the council’s planning department for new premises at 220 Easter Road.

The property is currently used for office space but Plant Bae have applied to convert its use into a cafe.

Plant Bae say on their website that their mission is to help everyone introduce more plant based foods into their diet.

They say: “Making a small change in the produce we consume and the buying decisions we make can make a big difference to our environment.

“We understand that it will take time for people to transition to a more sustainable way of eating and we hope that we can help showcase how tasty and unrestrictive a plant based diet can be. Even if we can only get you to have one meal a week that is fully plant based then we have succeeded.”

The City of Edinburgh Council are expected to make a decision in the coming weeks.
