Edinburgh to bask in mini heatwave as capital set for 'hottest day of the year'

Edinburgh is set to bask in a mini heatwave over Easter Weekend with highs of up to 14C expected across the capital.

According to BBC Weather, the sun will be out on both Saturday and Sunday, April 8 and 9, with temperatures of 13C and 14C on both days ahead of the busy family weekend.

Forecasters say any lingering mist and dog will lift on Saturday morning but it will stay mostly cloudy in the east. Any cloud is expected to break up in the afternoon kicking off what could be the hottest weekend of the year so far.

In terms of the outlook towards Sunday and the start of next week, the BBC say: "Variable cloud and sunny spells on Sunday morning with outbreaks of rain reaching the west by the evening. Turning windy here too.

"Unsettled and wet on Monday with rain and blustery showers, these falling heavy at times but tending to ease later. A mix of variable cloud, scattered showers and sunny spells on Tuesday morning. Heavy rain and windy conditions by the evening."

A light breeze is set to continue into the weekend but the sunny spells will be music to the ears of those planning on celebrating Easter with areas such as Portobello Beach and The Meadows expected to be busy.

Much like the typical Scottish weather, rain is set to come back into play at the start of next week with temperatures dropping to highs of 11C and lows of just 2C on Thursday.
