Edinburgh 'timewarp house' is like stepping back in time with throwback features

A three-bedroom townhouse in New Town has gathered attention thanks to its throwback features throughout the house.

Marketed by Sturrock, Armstrong & Thomson on ESPC, the Albany Street Lane property is described as a "beautifully presented contemporary mews townhouse quietly nestled in the heart of Edinburgh’s historic New Town with its own private triple L-shaped garage and south facing garden".

The living room is a blast from the past, with its Artex ceilings, cuckoo-clock and sleek oak wood furniture.

However, when you reach the kitchen, it is a mix of past, present and a splash of bright blue. The kitchen island is modern and functional, but the border of checked tiling is reminiscent of early 2000s style.

The bright pastel blue is a pop of colour to add to the otherwise natural house, with a set of patio doors out to a rather spacious garden/patio area.

Upstairs follows the same theme of traditional and modern, with the three bedrooms rather quiet with decoration. The pastel blue from the kitchen follows upstairs into the skirtings and ceiling edges, and the oak furniture lines every room.

There is also a very traditional office space, which is straight out of a BBC crime drama from the 90s, complete with what looks like a fax machine in the corner of the room.

The bathroom is perhaps the most modern of the entire house, complete with a slate grey bordering and porcelain bath, toilet and sink.

The marketers have said that Albany Street Lane has "combined traditional New Town living with modern contemporary style with a tranquil south facing terraced garden and a large external store".

Albany Street Lane is located in the heart of Edinburgh’s New Town area, and can benefit from city centre living as it is in good proximity to Princes Street and George Street. Also, it is said that "the location retains a charming ambiance with its eclectic range of specialised shops, bistros and restaurants on nearby Broughton Street".

It is close by to many forms of public transport, such as Waverley Train Station, and can benefit from the use of the tram services, which are a link to Edinburgh Airport.

It is nearby to both religious and non-denominational schools, and various attractions like the Royal Botanical Gardens and Princes Street Gardens also.

You can check out the listing on the ESPC website, or book a viewing here.
