Edinburgh section of M8 closed for one week to allow for resurfacing works

Part of the M8 in Edinburgh is to be closed overnight for essential maintenance.

Bosses at BEAR Scotland have reminded drivers that part of the motorway will be shut off if they need to make an essential journey.

According to the contractors, the road will undergo resurfacing and drainage improvement - a job that is expected to take several days.

With work beginning tonight (January 18), the works are planned to run every night until January 26, apart from January 24.

This will see the westbound section of the M8 between Hermiston Gait and Ratho closed between the hours of 8pm-6pm.

Clear diversions will be in place, with drivers asked to allow times for any additional delays while travelling.

Today, BEAR Scotland issued the following reminder:

"Overnight resurfacing and drainage improvement works begin TONIGHT on the westbound #M8 between Hermiston Gait and Ratho.

"Works are scheduled from 20:00 until 06:00 on 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 25 and 26 January."

You can find more information about the diversions in place here.
