Edinburgh Sainsbury's customers warned over new Boxing Day closure

Sainsbury's has issued an alert to customers to remind them they will be closing to the public on Boxing Day.

Earlier this year, the supermarket chain announced they would be following other competitors in closing their stores for two days over Christmas.

In a thank you to staff for working throughout the pandemic, Sainsbury's supermarkets and local stores will be closed on December 25 and 26.

However, bosses have issued an urgent warning to customers to remind them that if they need 'extra pints of milk' they will need to grab them before stores shut on Christmas Eve.

Making the announcement on Facebook, the supermarket wrote: "Please try to pick up that extra pint of milk and any essentials you might need ahead of Christmas and we’ll be back open as usual on Monday 27th December."

This means that shoppers have until 7pm on Christmas Eve to make sure that they have any household essentials that they may need after Christmas at home, reports the Record.

Sainsbury's and Argos stores will then be closed on Christmas and Boxing Day, before reopening on December 27 from 8am to 8pm.

The supermarket said: "Sainsbury’s teams have worked tirelessly over the past eighteen months and to say thank you we are closing all Sainsbury’s and Argos stores on #BoxingDay this year to give colleagues an extra day to spend with friends and family."

"Thank you in advance for your understanding, which means our store colleagues will have an extra day off this Christmas" they added.

The supermarket joins Morrisons, Aldi and Lidl, who have all officially announced that they will be closed on December 26 this year.
