Edinburgh Royal Navy share video of frozen Leith Docks as temperatures plummet

Temperatures have plummeted in Edinburgh and across the UK after Storm Darcy slammed into the country with an artic blast.

One Royal Navy patrol boat shared a clip showing just how far the mercury had plunged, with the water in Leith Docks beginning to freeze over.

HMS Archer wrote: "Thank goodness it’s rather cold at Leith Docks today.. we had just ran out of ice in the Wardroom bar."

Elsewhere, one local shared a photo of the Water of Leith at The Shore where the surface was "frozen over"

He asked: "How cold was it last night? Well the surface of the Water of Leith was still frozen over at 1pm today."

Last time the weather got this cold Edinburgh locals raised a few eyebrows as they took to the ice in Inverleith Park,

Images showed a busy Inverleith pond strewn with visitors engaging in everything from hockey to ice skating and walking their dogs over the weekend.

There were also people trying to skateboarde and even attempting to kayak on Edinburgh's Union Canal on Saturday.

Police have previously issued warnings, urging people to stay away from Edinburgh's frozen ponds and reservoirs for their own safety.

This time around locals have taken to snowsports instead, there's been local skiing over jumps in the city centre streets, while others were filmed skiing down a picturesque Victoria Street.
