Edinburgh residents can see rare double Hunter's Moon in the sky tonight

Edinburgh residents will be able to catch a glimpse of the full Hunter’s Moon on Monday night.

Stargazers and astronomers will be able to take the only full moon of October. The best opportunity to spot the celestial delight will be at twilight.

It is understood that those in coastal areas will have the clearest view of the moonrise as it emerges over the horizon. It will be at its most colourful and brightest state for around 15 minutes at twilight.

Timeanddate.com says that the astronomical twilight in Edinburgh will take place between 7:44pm and 8:28pm. They also say that the moonrise will take place at 6:45pm and that it will set at 08:02am, the Doncaster Free Press reports.

The name is believed to come from seasonal practices for hunting and societies preparing for the cold winter ahead. It is the first full moon to follow the Harvest Moon which took place on September 10 earlier this year.

The spiritual meaning of the event is supposed to represent change. According to sportskeeda.com it can indicate growth and that “one is making progress.”

You can check the exact time that the Moon will be visible from your location here.
