Edinburgh police shut down Queensferry Crossing due to ongoing emergency

Emergency services have raced to the Queensferry Crossing between Fife and Edinburgh tonight amid concerns for a person.

There are currently huge tailbacks at the scene, with Traffic Scotland warning locals to use an alternative route at this time.

Traffic Scotland said in a post: "UPDATE 17:50pm #M90 Queensferry Crossing remains CLOSED both ways due to a police incident. Please use the Kincardine Bridge for diversion or a suitable alternative route."

Police say emergency services remain at the scene where they are dealing with the ongoing incident.

A police spokesperson told Edinburgh Live: "It was around 5.15 pm that police received a concern for a person call at the Queensferry Crossing.

“Emergency services are in attendance, the southbound carriageway is closed from the Fife direction towards Edinburgh.”

UPDATE (19:00) Police have now re-opened the bridge.
