Edinburgh passenger fumes after being left 'queuing out the door' at airport

Edinburgh passengers have been left queuing out the door and on lights of stairs at the airport.

David Dryburgh, 56, arrived at Edinburgh Airport from Barcelona on Sunday after spending a week on a cruise.

When coming off the plane and heading to the main terminal to passport control, passenger from Glenrothes was alarmed by the large queues and disorganisation.

A spokesperson for Edinburgh Airport confirmed that they did experience queues on Sunday.

This was due to a number of planes arriving in early and confirmed some passengers were forced to queue on stairs in the airport.

Although they also added queues in the airport during busy periods are not uncommon and was quickly dealt with by airport staff.

David told Edinburgh Live: "We were flying from Barcelona, basically we got off the plane and it was a shambles everyone was trying to get up the three flights of stairs to the passport control with their hand luggage.

"The queue went right down the stairs it was really unsafe, the place was just absolutely chockablock with hundreds of people queuing on the stairs and out of the door.

"When you come off a long flight this is what you are greeted with, there was nobody there to guide anyone the whole process took an hour.

"Out of the ten automatic passport machines, five weren’t working and if you queued up to use one and it then didn’t work you then had to go and join another really long queue - it was horrendous."

The fed up passenger added: "When you got through security the carousels to collect check in luggage weren't moving due to nobody coming through security.

The management was horrible, I used to fly all the time for work and it was much better but now its always an awful experience."

An Edinburgh Airport spokesperson said: "We are aware some passengers had to queue for a short period at UK Border Control yesterday. This was because several flights arrived at the airport off-schedule.

"When we became aware of this we worked closely with colleagues at UKBF to ensure any delays were kept to a minimum and passengers were processed quickly and safely.

"As you would expect with a busy airport, and as is the case in many other walks of life, it is not unusual to see some queues from time to time. Where this is the case we would like to thank passengers for their patience."
