Edinburgh OAP 'shaken' after car smashed and left with no note in Asda car park

An Edinburgh OAP has been left "shaken" after a car smashed into his parked vehicle in a supermarket car park without leaving a note.

The 81-year old had parked up at Asda's Leith Superstore on Sandpiper Drive on Sunday around 11am and came out of the shop to discover that his blue Kia had the front smashed and partially ripped off but no note was left.

Shocking pictures show the impact of the smash to the driver's side at the front of the small car, the front panel is partially falling off.

The family said that after the stressful ordeal and speaking to the insurance company they chose not to report it to police but that the 81-year-old was left distressed by the incident.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live his daughter Mrs Mitchell said: "We didn’t report it to the police, Dad was shaken up that someone would do that and drive off and by the time I’d dealt with the insurance company he’d had enough.

"Two gentlemen saw the damage after the fact, calmed Dad down and walked to the security desk at Asda front door with him, to ask about CCTV.

"That’s when he discovered that the CCTV isn’t in the car park due to the flats being built, well that’s what he was told.

"Those two gentlemen were lovely to Dad apparently."

The family are still appealing to any witnesses that may have seen the incident on Sunday December 5 at Asda Leith and have reported it to their insurance company.

Asda has been contacted for comment.
