Edinburgh man launches £1 million crowd-funder to give himself early retirement

A man from Edinburgh has launched a slightly unusual fundraiser to give himself an early retirement.

Michele Bernardini, 27, has created a £1 million fundraiser online to try and raise enough to support him for the rest of his life.

A community caregiver in Leith, Michele moved to Scotland when he was 19 after growing up in Italy.

After buying his own flat earlier this year, he told Edinburgh Live he was "sick and tired" of a working lifestyle, and hopes to receive enough donations to give up work.

With hopes of becoming a 'baby pensioner', Michele has so far raised £4 after publishing the crowd-funder yesterday evening (Tuesday).

Speaking about his hopes for the fundraiser, named 'help me quit my job', he said:

"I live with my three pets: Allan (a golden retriver) , John and Jack (cats).

"When I was at school in Italy my teachers never gave me any credit as person. They all thought I was going to be nothing and do anything in my life.

"My girlfriend left me and our three pets in November 2019. She still living in Edinburgh.

"A lot of people say 'unlucky in cards, lucky in love'. Well I'm not been lucky in love so I hope I gonna be lucky with cards, credit cards.

"My goal is to reach just £1 million. I hope people would appreciate my honesty."
