Edinburgh Festival 2022: This year's venues and where they're located in the capital

It's now under a month until the start of the 2022 Edinburgh Festival.

For the first time in two years, the Festival will be back in full flow, following its covid-related cancellation in 2020 and the pandemic significantly curtailing the 2021 event.

What's more, this year's edition of the globally revered arts exhibition marks the 75th anniversary of the Fringe, which first launched way back in 1947.

The Fringe kicks off on Friday August 5, with the final day on Monday August 29, meaning there's over three weeks of performances and events for the people of Edinburgh - and its visitors - to enjoy this time round, with thousands set to descend on the capital from across the globe.

How many Edinburgh Fringe venues are there?

According to the official edfringe.com website, there are a grand total of 239 different venues hosting performances across the city.

Where are the venues located?

The 2022 venue map shows the majority of venues are located in central Edinburgh, however there are also some as far as Musselburgh to the east and Ingliston to the west.

Shillinghill Studios in Temple is the festival's most southerly venue.

In the city centre, the majority of Fringe locations are found in the Old Town, with plenty in New Town, near Haymarket and Princes Street train stations, as well as a number in Leith and further out in Portobello.

Of course there'll be a number of pop-up street performances throughout the festival too.

You can purchase tickets via the official website of this year's Festival, edfringe.com, which lists all this year's performances. Simply search for and click on a show that takes your fancy, and there you'll find a link to where you buy your tickets.
