Edinburgh emergency services race to scene of crash as 'road soaked in petrol'

Emergency services raced to the scene of a two-car collision in the north of Edinburgh this morning with one man treated by paramedics.

Police Scotland confirmed that they were called to a report of a two-vehicle crash in the Main Street area of Davidson's Mains at around 11.25am.

A witness on Twitter shared that there was a “major collision occurring in Davidson's Mains town on the West of Edinburgh.”

They added that buses were being diverted via Queensferry Road as it is understood that the main roundabout at Davidson's Mains was closed off by emergency services.

The ambulance service, police and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service all attended the crash with the same witness sharing that the “road (was) soaked in petrol” and that “all buses (have been) diverted” due to “road closures.”

This meant that several roads in the area had to be closed off leading to Lothian bus diversions for the number 21 and 47. An unnamed delivery driver also explained a scene of chaos as traffic tailed back along Queensferry Road.

East Barnton Street, Quality Street, Main Street and Cramond Road South were said to be impacted by the crash.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11.25am on Tuesday, 30 May, 2023, police were called to a report of a two-vehicle crash in the Main Street area of Edinburgh.

“Emergency services are in attendance.”

A SFRS spokesperson said: “There were no persons trapped in the vehicle but a male was taken into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

“We were on site to make the scene safe.”
