Edinburgh drivers warned to defrost their windscreens after 'avoidable' crash

Drivers have been warned to clear frost from their cars after police attended a collision on Clarkson Road in Broxburn this morning.

An image shared by Road Policing Scotland on Twitter seems to show a badly- damaged BMW which has mounted the curb and struck a traffic light at a road junction.

The car's windscreen appears to be only partially defrosted.

Road Policing Scotland wrote: "West Lothian Road Police attended a collision this morning which was more than likely avoidable had they taken an extra few minutes to clear their windscreen!!"

Police confirmed that the driver had been charged with a variety of offences including dangerous driving and will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police Scotland attended a road crash involving two cars on Clarkson Road in Broxburn, which was reported shortly before 9.15am on Monday, 18 November.

"Nobody was seriously injured."

It comes as the recent spell of cold weather saw temperatures fall to around -2C this morning, with the maximum temperature not expected to rise above 5C.
