Edinburgh drivers get scare after dog caught running between cars on city bypass

A number of Edinburgh drivers have reported getting a scare when travelling on the city bypass after a dog was caught running between cars.

The incident is said to have taken place just after rush hour at about 6.30pm on February 2 when a grey and white slim dog was seen running through traffic on the 70mph road.

Drivers are urged to take care tonight if travelling on the bypass close to Hillend in case the dog makes its way back onto the dual carriageway.

The lurcher was spotted weaving through cars between the Straiton junction and the Hillend junction before making its way off the road. It is unknown if the dog was caught safely by its owners but it had reportedly left the bypass by the time police arrived.

An eyewitness told Edinburgh Live: "I left my car in the middle of the road to try and stop traffic and I left my phone in the car while trying to catch her.

"She was white and grey, white and cream. It was 19:15 when I stopped and I chased her around for three miles back and forth but she was too wriggly and I lost her."

She added: "She got to me just next to Hillend heading to Damhead. I hope she made it. I work in the vets and just finished my shift so I obviously tried to catch her with little luck, unfortunately."

Police Scotland received a report of the pup around 7 pm but it appears the dog was off the road prior to police attendance.
