Edinburgh driver sparks backlash after blocking disabled access with ‘selfish’ parking

A Leith resident has hit out at a vehicle over their irresponsible parking on Great Junction Street.

Pictures show a car parked at the edge of double yellow lines and on top of a tactile paving surface which is used to convey important information to visually impaired and disabled pedestrians.

An eyewitness claims that the irresponsible parking caused traffic chaos on the busy Leith road as the car was ‘blocking a lane’ causing ‘tailbacks the length of Great Junction Street.’

The local resident claims that the vehicle was ‘touching the double yellow line’ and ‘didn’t have a blue badge.’

The eyewitness told Edinburgh Live: “She was there for the best part of an hour obstructing the passing place for wheelchair users and buggies.

“Not to mention busses couldn’t use the left lane and caused tailbacks the length of Great Junction Street “

An ariel image of the parked car (Handout)

An aerial image taken of the car shows multiple pedestrians - including a woman with a pram - trying to cross the busy road while much of the pedestrian space is taken up by the vehicle.

It comes as we reported how Edinburgh road workers were forced to leave a car-shaped gap in a new road - after a Mercedes driver failed to move his vehicle.

The council had dished out 'no parking' notices and even threatened residents on Parkgrove Terrace that they would see their cars towed if they didn’t move on time.

But despite this, there was still a silver Merc on the road when workers showed up for the job, giving them no choice but to lay the new road around it. (You can view the image here).
