Edinburgh Covid cleaner dies suddenly as family launch heartbreaking appeal

The devastated colleagues of an Edinburgh cleaner have shared a heartbreaking appeal for funds to help fly his body home to his family in Poland.

Piotr Zukiel was an employee of Covid cleaning firm Daybreak Scotland for 6 years and was described by shocked colleagues as 'always the first to help out anyone'.

The company has told of how Piotr's family is unable to travel to Scotland to deal with arrangements owing to the pandemic and how "it is his mother's wish to get him home."

Writing on a Just Giving page, Daybreak Scotland said: "Piotr Zukiel sadly passed last night and it has hit us all hard. With little family here in Edinburgh it is his mothers wish is to get him home so he can be laid to rest in his home country of Poland.

"Due to current Covid restrictions and his family being unable to travel here to deal with arrangements, his work colleagues and friends here want to be able to do this and show our support as we can not say goodbye as we normally would.

"With initial enquiries the cost of getting Piotr back to Poland will start at around £4000 plus the funeral will still be on top of that.

"Piotr worked with Daybreak for 6 years and was always the first to help out anyone, we want to make sure we can now show his family how much he was part of our lives and help them by taking this financial pressure of them."
