Edinburgh City Bypass will close to traffic as carriageway resurfacing works take place

Edinburgh's City Bypass will close to traffic next week as carriageway resurfacing works take place.

The route will be off-limits for two nights, with diversions in place, while teams from BEAR Scotland get to work.

Midlothian North and Musselburgh MSP Colin Beattie confirmed the news on his social media, with closures to be in place from the evening of Tuesday, May 18.

In a post entitled 'UPDATE FROM BEAR SCOTLAND - A720 LOTHIANBURN TO STRAITON EB' he said: "Essential resurfacing works on a section of the A720 eastbound between Lothianburn and Straiton junctions will be carried out over two nights commencing Tuesday, May 18.

"The eastbound carriageway of the A720 will be closed. During periods of closure, a signed diversion route will be in place for traffic travelling eastbound via Lothianburn junction of the A720, the A702, B701 and A701 before rejoining the A720 at the Straiton junction."

He adds the diversion is expected to add around one mile, or six minutes, on to journeys in the area.

The closures will be in place from 8pm to 6am on the Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
