The castle dating from the Iron Ages dominates the capital skyline and has come in top as the most instagrammable location in Scotland.
Perched on volcanic rock surrounded by the lush green grass of Princes Street Gardens, the impressive castle is a stunning landmark that can be seen across the city.
Just a short walk up the cobbled Royal Mile leads to the fortress in all its glory with many spots for the perfect snap.
From one side of the esplanade to the 11th century building there is a magical backdrop of the Old Town and all it’s impressive architecture.
The top slot came from a study at Heriot Watt where students decided to analyse Instagram hashtags to detail the most instagrammable places in Scotland.
The top 5 locations include Loch Ness, Loch Lomond, Ben Nevis and St Kilda.
But Edinburgh Castle is clear by almost 100,000 hashtags making it the most popular Insta spot in Scotland.
The destinations were taken from the most popular list on Trip Advisor and calculated based on the total number of hashtags as of October 17.

Loch Lomond just missed the top spot with 501,498 hashtags while Loch Ness came in at third with 439,736 hashtags.
