Edinburgh Boots wrecked by flooding as water cascades into Princes Street basement

A video posted on TikTok has shown the amount of water taken in by an Edinburgh Boots store after Sunday's thunderstorm.

The shop on Princes Street was one of many to be affected by the flash flooding on July 4, after an excessive amount of rain lashed down in just minutes.

Earlier footage had shown the Boots branch in the new St James Quarter suffering flooding after water began pouring in from the open ceiling above.

However, the flagship store on Princes Street actually appeared to have experienced even worse water damage, after a video by a staff member was posted online.

The clip took viewers around the shop, where a number of inches worth of water was seen to be covering almost the entire ground floor.

Makeup counters and shelves could be seen to have water lapping up around them, with staff members collecting any items which could be damaged.

Sand bags were also captured in the clip being pilled up at the front doors leading out onto Princes Street, however water was still managing to get in under the door.

After a sweeping shot of the shop floor, the staff member moves through a staff door leading to a staircase heading down to the basement.

The video then shows water cascading down the inner staircase, with the damage on the basement level expected to be significantly worse.

Captioned “only in Edinburgh”, the video by @Kirstie94 has since seen over 3000 likes after the capital suffered flash flooding on Sunday.
