Edinburgh American Airlines flights cancelled due to row with Boeing over new planes

Edinburgh flights by American Airlines are being cancelled.

Reports state that the airline company will be cutting flights to places like Edinburgh and Hong Kong next summer and reducing the frequency of journeys to Shanghai, Beijing and Sydney.

American Airlines run flights to Edinburgh from the likes of New York, Los Angeles, Washington, Maimi and Chicago.

Prices for a variety of dates cost roughly £600-900 for a round economy trip, but can be more expensive in the peak months.

The move by American Airlines is believed to be a consequence of Boeing’s failure to deliver new twin-aisle 787 Dreamliner aeroplanes on schedule.

Boeing have been rocked by setbacks in the last year and a number of the new Dreamliners have not been delivered to airliners across the world on time.

Their stock plummeted as news filtered through that they were cancelling flights and reducing other services.

The Wall Street Journal obtained a draft internal memo from American Airlines.

Vasu Raja, American’s chief revenue officer described the importance of the new Boeing aeroplanes.

He said: “Without these wide-bodies, we simply won’t be able to fly as much internationally as we had planned next summer, or as we did in summer 2019,”

An official announcement is expected soon when American Airlines release their schedule for 2022.
