EBU launches Eurovision Sport, a free streaming platform for sports

The European Broadcasting Union launched Eurovision Sport, a free streaming platform.

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has made an exciting announcement with the launch of their new streaming platform, Eurovision Sport. This direct-to-consumer service aims to provide sports enthusiasts with thousands of hours of live sports broadcasting, for free. Available on desktop, mobile, and various iOS and Android apps, Eurovision Sport is set to expand its availability later this year to include connected TVs and selected ad-supported television channels.

Developed and operated by Nagravision, the Eurovision Sport platform seeks to complement the existing coverage provided by public service broadcasters and showcase a wide variety of sporting events. From the recently-started World Aquatics Championships in Doha to next month's World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow, this streaming platform aims to be a one-stop destination for sports fans.

As the EBU manages media rights for 14 sports and holds agreements with 28 international federations, Eurovision Sport will offer over 43,000 hours of sport content annually. Sports enthusiasts can look forward to coverage of athletics, gymnastics, skiing, swimming, and more. The platform will include events ranging from world to European championships, multi-sport events, and national championships.

Glen Killane, executive director for sport at the EBU, expressed his excitement for this new initiative, stating, 'With the support of public service media, we'll be able to provide sports federations with an unrivaled shop window for their sports around the world. In this fragmented digital world, it is difficult and expensive for sports fans to find and access the sport they love and for sports federations to attract new audiences. This digital platform provides a solution to both of those problems.'

The primary goal of Eurovision Sport is to ensure that sports enthusiasts have easy access to their favorite events at no cost. By collaborating with their member organizations, the EBU is committed to making every second of their events available for free in every country in Europe and across the globe.

The EBU, consisting of public broadcasters from Europe and beyond, is best known for organizing the annual Eurovision Song Contest. However, with the launch of Eurovision Sport, they are now expanding their footprint in the world of sports broadcasting and streaming. With their extensive experience and wide network of partnerships, the EBU aims to revolutionize the way sports fans consume and engage with their favorite sporting events.

So, whether you're a fan of athletics, swimming, gymnastics, or skiing, or perhaps you enjoy watching multi-sport events and national championships, Eurovision Sport is set to become your go-to platform for all things sports. Stay tuned for the latest updates and get ready to cheer on your favorite athletes, as Eurovision Sport brings the excitement of live sports right to your screens.
