People across the UK can help tackle the rising cost of living by saving money with one simple trick, according to a study.
Price comparison website idealo found customers can save up to 55% on appliances simply by shopping at the right time of year. For example, results showed customers can save £481.65 on cookers if they buy in September.
They can save 50% on fridges (around £350) if purchased in June.

Idealo’s brand and communications manager Katy Philips said: “We expected to see a slight increase in consumers looking for greener alternatives but didn’t expect to see such a huge increase week-on-week. Energy price increases have been a worrying subject in 2022, and now bills have gone up even further, it’s important we do everything we can to keep costs down.”
The study also found August was the best time for purchasing a new dishwasher (with a 30% saving) and October was prime time for oven-buying (saving 26%).
TVs are best value in September (saving 22%), with washing machines at their cheapest in August (saving 14%) and tumble-dryers in May (12%).
As energy bills have rocketed, the demand for greener alternatives and energy-saving appliances has soared – with a 114% surge in sales every week in April. These are often ‘smart’ products with better energy ratings and ‘eco’ modes.
Searches for A+ rated ovens increased by 225% in April, those for smart thermostats increased by 100%, while tumble dryer searches went up by 67%.
