Easy 55p hack to get rid of flies in your home within minutes using kitchen basics

Brits are rushing to try a quick and easy 55p method for getting rid of flies as they descend on homes this summer.

Many are at their wits end as pesky flies manage to slip through open windows and get trapped inside.

But the popular hack claims to keep the flies at bay and requires just a plastic bottle and three basic ingredients.

Those wanting to rid themselves of the pests simply cut off the top of the bottle, add sugar, honey and water, and wait.

Ceith Griffith shared the recipe with his TikTok followers in a video that went viral, reports the Express Online.

"I’ve been getting this question a lot so I’m going to show you the best way to get rid of flies inside your house, on your porch and wherever you’ve got flies," he said.

In the video, the TikToker told fans to get any plastic bottle and remove the top before adding four tablespoons of sugar.

This is followed by one tablespoon of honey and three ounces of water which is all mixed together inside the bottle base.

"Then place the top half of the bottle upside-down on the bottom half of the bottle," he added.

"Just to show you guys that it works, in a matter of five minutes, there’s already several flies that it caught.”

Ceith showed his viewers the dead flies floating around in the mixture just a few minutes after testing out the hack.

The mix can be left inside the house, on a surface in the garden or in an outside area.

It offers a simple way to get rid of all types of flies without using chemicals. and the ingredients to make the cheap solution can be purchased from Asda for just 55p.

Common house flies are attracted to decaying organic filth such as rotting meat, whereas fruit flies look for sugary substances and feed more commonly on overripe fruit, spilt fizzy drinks and alcohol.

The insects smell the bait and fly into the bottle to get to the sticky liquid, either to lay eggs or to feed.

But once inside, they become trapped as they fly down the neck of the bottle.

The pests are unable to navigate back up the narrow opening or fly if their wings get wet.
