Easter Monday reopening for Doon Valley Railway as East Ayrshire tourist attraction set to welcome visitors back

Scotland’s only preserved industrial railway is set to welcome back visitors to enjoy scenic train trips of the Ayrshire countryside from Monday.

Doon Valley Railway, situated near Patna and operated by the Ayrshire Railway Preservation Group, will open on Easter Monday, April 18 with a host of fun for all the family to get involved in.

The heritage diesel locomotive, Powfoot No.1, will be operating the ‘Easter Bunny Special’, with the first train departing at 11am for a 15 minute return trip in the scenic Doon Valley.

The short train journey is an opportunity to enjoy the picturesque views of rolling hills in a vintage saloon.

Powfoot No.1 will run every 20 minutes until 4pm.

Tickets- £7 for adults, £4 children or £18 for a family of two adults with three kids- can be bought on the day from the new and improved shop and ticket office.

The re-vamped museum will also be open, with many more railway related artefacts on display, all of which is included in the ticket price.

A full list of open days at the Doon Valley Railway is listed below, operating from 11am to 4.30pm, with last admission at 4pm:

• April 18: Easter Monday- Easter egg hunt

• May: Sunday 1 and Sunday 29

• June: Sunday 19 and Sunday 26

• July: Sundays 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31

• August: Sundays 7, 14, 21 and 28

• September: Sundays 4, 11, 18 and 25

The Fireless steam locomotive will be in steam on the last Sunday of June, July and August.

And in the event the steam locomotive is unavailable services will be hauled by one of the heritage diesel locomotives.

The Doon Valley Railway, operated entirely by volunteers, is Scotland’s only preserved industrial railway.

Ayrshire Railway Preservation Group are always on the lookout for volunteers keen to get involved with any of the projects at the Doon Valley Railway.
