EastEnders takes top prize at Inside Soap Awards as stars pose on red carpet

Soap stars have put on their glad rags as they attended the Inside Soap Awards on Monday October 17.

Actors from Coronation Street, Emmerdale, EastEnders, Hollyoaks and posed on the red carpet as they celebrated the world of soap in the first in-person event in two years.

Lorraine Stanley looked worlds apart from her EastEnders role as Karen Taylor as she wore her blonde locks in a sleek, straight style and a glamorous, bold patterned kimono-style dress with tassels at the ends of the short sleeves.

Meanwhile, Faye Windass actress Ellie Leach brought a pop of colour to the carpet in a silky pink gown, which had an elegant high neckline and stunning floaty skirt.

Coronation Street star Colson Smith, who plays Craig Tinker, showed off his weight loss as he posed in a dapper suit. He opted for a light blue shirt along with a navy tie and blazer, which he then matched with a pair of light grey trousers for the event.

Meanwhile, Emmerdale star Mark Charnock, known for his role as Marlon Dingle, grinned from ear to ear as he held onto his Best Actor gong as well as the award for Best Romance and Best Storyline, which he won following his heartbreaking stroke storyline earlier this year.

Mark, 54, wore a white shirt, which had the top button open, along with a dark navy suit jacket and matching trousers.

EastEnders' Heather Peace, who entered Albert Square as Eve Unwin last year, looked chic in an all-black ensemble as she posed with her Best Newcomer award.

Heather's on-screen love interest Balvinder Sopal, who plays Suki Panesar, added a pop of colour to the carpet as she wore an eye-catching blue leopard print floaty maxi-dress with bell sleeves.

Keeping on-trend with a colour clash, the Suki actress added a pink rectangle clutch bag to her outfit as she beamed on the red carpet.

Balvinder wasn't the only soap star to bring colour to the Inside Soap Awards red carpet, as Hollyoaks' Jennifer Metcalfe opted for a bold green figure-hugging strapless dress which had a matched green waist belt and a thigh split on one side.

And her Hollyoaks co-star Eva O'Hara, who played Verity Hutchinson, opted for an eye-catching striped blazer and trousers and wore the jacket open along with a black lace bralet underneath.

The Inside Soap Awards sees the soaps battle it out to come out top after a dramatic year of twists, scandals, romance and villainous murders.

Last year, Coronation Street nearly swept the board as they bagged seven trophies - from Best Soap to Best Actor and Actress at the ceremony, held to celebrate Inside Soap Magazine.

But as Emmerdale marked a major week as the soap celebrated its 50th anniversary and a big win at the National Television Awards, there is all to play for.

The nation has cast their vote on everything soap related - with gongs for best newcomer, storyline, romance and more.

After Faith Dingle's emotional death in Emmerdale this week, Sally Dexter will go head-to-head with Corrie's Sally Carman (Ali Webster), EastEnders ' Gillian Wright (Jean Slater) and Hollyoaks' Harvey Virdi (Misbah Maalik) in the Best Actress category - which Gillian won.

Over in Best Male, Mark Charnock (Marlon Dingle, Emmerdale), David Neilson (Roy Cropper, Coronation Street), Max Bowden (Ben Mitchell, EastEnders) and Gregory Finnegan (James Nightingale, Hollyoaks) will compete - won by the Marlon Dingle actor Mark.

As for Best Villain, Hollyoaks' Jamie Lomas (Warren Fox) goes against Charlie Brooks (Janine Butcher, EastEnders), Paige Sandhu (Meena Jutla, Emmerdale) and Maximus Evans (Corey Brent, Coronation Street), which Paige bagged for the second year.

Best Storyline nominations vary from Marlon's stroke in Emmerdale to Abi's battle for baby Alfie in Corrie.

EastEnders' storyline of Jean's bipolar disorder and Misbah's history rape in Hollyoaks are also nominated with Marlon's stroke winning the award.

Marlon's stroke in Emmerdale, Corrie's sinkhole horror, Jean in Southend in EastEnders and Luke's harrowing death in Mallorca are the nominees for Best Showstopper - which Gillian won for her Jean in Southend performance.

Over in the romance category, Zoe Henry and Mark Charnock (Rhona Goskirk and Marlon Dingle, Emmerdale), Sally Dynevor & Joe Duttine (Sally and Tim Metcalfe, Coronation Street), Lacey Turner and Jaz Deol (Stacey Slater and Kheerat Panesar, EastEnders) and Jessica Fox and Ashley Taylor Dawson (Nancy and Darren Osborne, Hollyoaks) are the nominees.

Emmerdale scooped the Best Romance gong for Rhona and Marlon's touching love story. As for Best Soap, Emmerdale, Corrie, Hollyoaks and EastEnders battled it out to be crowned victorious.

And the winning soap was EastEnders - taking the coveted trophy back to Albert Square.
