EastEnders star teases Ian Beale could die in shock Christmas twist as he makes return

EastEnders star Adam Woodyatt has teased Ian Beale could die in shock Christmas twist as he makes his long awaited return.

Ian made a brief return to Walford for Dot's funeral, where he was seen on the phone. It has now been revealed that the call was to Cindy, and the pair have been reconnected for a while now.

Now Adam, who is back as Ian, has teased his character could be the one to die this Christmas, after it was confirmed a male resident of Walford will meet their end this festive season on the day that Sharon ties the knot.

Speaking about his return, Adam said: "It’s weird saying Ian’s back as it never really felt like he was gone, Ian still existed just not in Walford. Now that he is back, he needs to avoid Sharon cooking carbonara and his mum getting him cufflinks for Christmas!"

Of course, he is referring to the cufflinks which appear on the mystery man dead seen on the floor in the Christmas flashforward episode.

We don't know who the man is, but we do know he has died with the six matriarchs of Walford stood around him. Was he murdered, or is his death just accidental? Whatever happens, it will be a huge storyline that has already begun on the BBC soap.

Chris Clenshaw, Executive producer, said of their return: "It’s an honour to not simply welcome back just one EastEnders icon in the name of Adam Woodyatt, but to welcome Michelle Collins back to Walford to reprise her role as the legendary Cindy Beale after twenty-five years is somewhat surreal. Cindy’s been sorely missed from our screens.

"We’re delighted that she’ll be returning to Walford, alongside Ian, permanently later this year."

He added: "Now everyone knows that she is in fact Rose Knight, secrets are set to be revealed as viewers will learn about the circumstances surrounding their return, including the million dollar question - how is Cindy alive when she was declared dead in 1998 - later this summer Ian and Cindy’s comeback will be nothing less than explosive for the Square."

The cufflinks will play a key part in the Christmas murder storyline, as Nish Panesar actor Navin Chowdhry revealed.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, he said: "I am aware that Nish is the number one contender to die at Christmas. I think the main clue is to follow the cufflinks. There's some stuff we filmed recently about the cufflinks so look out for that and follow the cufflinks."
