EastEnders spoilers: Lily Slater, 12, suffers baby scare after Whitney's tragic loss

EastEnders teen Lily Slater becomes embroiled in a baby scare next week in the wake of Whitney Dean’s own devastating loss on the BBC soap.

Whitney (Shona McGarty) made the decision in tragic scenes on EastEnders to terminate her pregnancy with Zack Hudson following his HIV diagnosis.

Whitney had since learned that her unborn baby had Edwards’ Syndrome: a condition that affects a baby’s chromosomes.

Edwards’ syndrome is a rare genetic condition where a person has extra copies of a chromosome. There is no current long-treatment for the severe condition and children diagnosed with it do not often live beyond the first few years of their life.

Whitney made the heartbreaking decision in tragic scenes (BBC/Jack Barnes/Kieron McCarron)

Around 3 in every 10,000 births in the UK are affected by Edwards' syndrome each year and the heartbreaking storyline portrayed the tough decisions prospective parents are faced with following a diagnosis.

In scenes last week, Whitney delivered baby Peach in heartbreaking scenes as news of the loss reached Albert Square and pregnant Lily.

Fans will know that 12-year-old Lily (Lillia Turner) is pregnant with Ricky Jnr's baby, after she discovered she was pregnant on New Year’s Day.

The 12-year-old went back and forth over whether or not to keep the baby, before she eventually decided that she would.

In the wake of Whitney’s loss, Lily’s mum Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) had to reassure her that the situation with her own pregnancy would be fine, as Whitney’s baby had a very rare condition.

Whitney's tragedy may have more of a profound impact on Lily (BBC/Jack Barnes/Kieron McCarron)

She promised that Lily and her baby would be fine, and that Lily should go and get ready for school.

However, ITV spoilers have now revealed that Whitney's tragedy may have more of a profound impact on her, when she gets into a fight at school next week.

In the upcoming scenes, Zack tries to talk to Whitney about having a memorial for Peach, but she’s evasive.

They agree to pick up their daughter’s ashes together until Whitney sees Lily have a health scare and uses the moment to ditch Zack.

Whitney and Lily return to the Slater house, where Whitney goes completely over the top about protecting Lily’s unborn baby and a row ensues.

Meanwhile, Zack struggles with his emotions as he sits with Peach’s ashes. Later, he sees distraught Whit and calls her out on her decision to let him go alone to do the tragic task.

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One
