EastEnders' Samantha Womack shares health update as she makes comeback after cancer treatment

Samantha Womack has said that she feels "blessed" to have returned to work following recent cancer treatment, after sharing her diagnosis just a few months ago.

The actor, 50, revealed in August that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, sharing the news following the death of Olivia Newton-John, who had cancer herself.

She has since undergone an operation and subsequently began chemotherapy, having shared updates about such treatment with fans on social media over recent weeks.

Samantha - known for having played Ronnie Mitchell on EastEnders, until her departure in 2017 - is understood to have now returned to work following some time off.

She currently stars as the White Witch in a stage production of the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, with the West End show running at Gillian Lynne Theatre in London.

It's understood that Samantha made her return to the show recently and the Sun states that she was given a "rapturous applause" by audience members last night.

The outlet reports that ahead of the performance, she provided an update, in which she said it had been a "rough" few months but that she was "blessed" to be back at work.

The actor told the outlet recently: "I'm back at work at the Gillian Lynne Theatre". She further commented: "It's been a rough couple of months but I am blessed to be back."

Samantha appeared in the UK tour of the stage production - based on the fantasy novel of the same name by C. S. Lewis - last year and has reprised her role in the West End.

The show opened at Gillian Lynne Theatre in July and is due to run at the theatre until January next year. There was a gala performance of the show that was held yesterday.

Samantha had shared her cancer diagnosis in a tribute to fellow actor and singer Olivia, who passed away, aged 73, on August 8.

She recalled meeting Olivia whilst in a production of Grease some years prior, saying that it was "the most magical of evenings" and that they had dinner together after the show.

"I was so excited and in awe, she was my childhood. I now start my own battle with this disease and am left feeling deeply moved," she wrote in the post shared on Twitter.
