EastEnders fans 'rumble' explosive Christmas storyline ahead of double exit

EastEnders viewers believe Tuesday's episode may have revealed what the BBC soap's Christmas Day episode could include.

Amid the confirmed exits of Mick Carter, played by Danny Dyer, and Janine Butcher, played by Charlie Brooks, some viewers believe they have worked out the soap's big Christmas storyline.

During the latest episode, Janine's daughter Scarlett appeared to backtrack on her plan to expose her mother's lies to Linda Carter.

That said, Linda was left suspicious when Scarlett hinted Janine had been up to no good, suggesting Mick wouldn't stay with her if he knew what she'd done.

Scarlett had found a photo that accidentally captured Janine in the background, on the day of Linda's car accident.

Linda nearly died in the crash and has no memory of it, meaning nobody has found out that Janine was in fact the driver, but had set Linda up so it looked as though she crashed the car while drunk.

Janine fled the scene and left Linda to die and take the blame, but Scarlett knows she didn't tell the truth about what happened - and the photo is evidence of this, with Janine supposedly away from Walford when it happened.

While Scarlett has stayed quiet for now, fans are speculating the truth will finally come out and causes explosive Christmas scenes - especially after seeing her hide the snap inside a Die Hard DVD case.

After all it has been teased "climactic" scenes are ahead, with viewers predicting Janine or Mick could be bumped off.

Taking to Twitter, viewers speculated over what was on the way with one writing: "Christmas special is defo Scarlett exposing Janine."

Another said: "Hiding the photo in the Die Hard dvd sleeve means it won't be discovered until Christmas."

A third agreed: "...and when do people watch 'Die Hard'....? So basically the Janine thing is going to explode at Christmas?"

It comes following the announcement over the weekend that actress Charlie was bowing out of the role again.

"I was only ever due back to EastEnders for a year, but when [exec producer] Chris Clenshaw presented me with his idea for the story, I couldn’t say no to staying a little longer," she told The Sun on Sunday, "I’ve had an amazing time, as I always do when I go back.

"But as always with Janine, she probably should not outstay her welcome - for everyone’s sake."

Boss Chris recently teased big scenes for Mick and Janine to The Mirror and other press, saying: "Janine is in a relationship with Mick and we're building to something very climactic between them."

Meanwhile, Mick actor Danny recently told The Mirror he was set to leave the show over Christmas, and he had a storyline in mind.

Speaking to us in June, he revealed: "I've got a few more scenes, I'm going out at Christmas. I came here Christmas 2013 and I'm going out at Christmas."

Quizzing him on whether it would be an open door exit, he replied: "I would like to put a full stop on it for sure. It's all up in the air but I want it to be huge and epic and I want people to be talking about a certain subject that I think's very important and with our platform and we get it right, it reaches a lot of people.

"So I want to go out in a way that gets people debating. It's important and I think it's going to be a shock."

Confirming that it would be "dark", he explained that he and soap bosses hadn't come to a firm decision about his exit.

EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
