EastEnders actress Rita Simons teases joining rival ITV soap after emotional Roxy Mitchell comeback

EastEnders star Rita Simons has revealed she could be about to make a huge soap comeback, but it wouldn't be on the BBC One soap. The actress appeared on Good Morning Britain on Friday (April 28) after fans saw her return to Walford in emotional scenes.

It was revealed earlier this week that Rita would be reprising the role of Roxy Mitchell who died in tragic scenes in 2017 alongside her sister Ronnie, played by Samantha Womack.

She appeared during Thursday night's episode (April 27) as "a figment of her daughter Amy Mitchell’s imagination" as the teen's mental health continues to struggle. On the soap during the last few weeks, the breakdown of Amy’s father Jack Branning’s marriage to Denise Fox has been causing confrontation in the family.

And things reached boiling point in the episode in which Amy attended a family therapy session with step-mother Denise, her dad and brother Ricky. In the session, Amy was encouraged to open up about her emotions surrounding the loss of her mum and as she zoned out, Roxy appeared to give her daughter some wise words of advice.

And the emotional scenes left EastEnders fans quickly make a demand about a permanent return for Roxy after it was pointed out that nobody ever saw her body when she died or saw a funeral for her.

With Rita on GMB, host Adil Ray had said to her: "I've heard Rita you’ve got another soap that has been knocking on your door..." to which the soap star replied: "Yes," before bursting into laughter and clearly trying to hide something.

Adil appeared to suggest it was either Coronation Street or Emmerdale asking: "Is it one not far from this channel[ ITV]?" But Rita insisted: "I can't tell you," leading to Adil asking: "How’s your Manchester accent?" which appeared to confirm it may be Corrie who is hoping to sign her up.

But she remained firm and replied: "I'm not telling you." Rita then said: "When I have something to tell you I will tell you, all I will say for now is I've left it so the public finally understands Roxy may not be dead." On a possible EastEnders return, she added: "So in the future who knows, but right now I am really having a lovely time not there, and potentially going somewhere else but the fans have been amazing, and I did it for them."
