East Yorkshire storage firm Fil appoints Mike Gorman as sales director

East Yorkshire storage and racking firm Fil has appointed Mike Gorman as its new sales director.

Mr Gorman has brought more than 17 years of industry experience to the company, based near Goole, having supplied builders’ merchants, national DIY chains, high street and supermarket retailers.

Initially, he will be covering the North West region for Fil, previously known as Filplastic, but his role will grow once the company recruits a permanent business development manager to cover the area.

Mr Gorman will also manage the company’s key accounts, dealing with some of Fil’s long-standing customers.

Paul Taylor, managing director at Fil, said he was delighted to welcome a “well-respected industry professional” to the company.

He said: “Mike has worked in our industry a long time, so I have always been aware of how well he knows the racking and storage industry and the sectors that we work in, and how well liked and respected he is.

“He is a fantastic addition to our business development team and I’m sure he will play a big part in our continued growth plans, both in the builders’ merchant sector and by helping us break into new industries.

“I am really pleased that he has decided to join Fil and I’m very much looking forward to working closely with him.”

Mr Gorman said during his previous role, he rarely tendered for a job that Fil wasn’t also quoting for.

“Fil are extremely well known in the industry,” he said.

“As a result, when I quoted for jobs, they were always the company to beat, so it’s great to be joining such a market leading business.

“One of Fil’s greatest assets is their agility. They are extremely adaptable. That means they can make decisions quickly and respond to market trends.

“I’m really looking forward to working in such a dynamic environment.”

Mr Gorman has joined Fil at a strong time for the business.

The East Yorkshire company saw revenue rise from £5m in 2017 to £8m in 2018.

During the busy year, Fil helped kit out half of all new builders’ merchants branches opened in the UK.

Despite the significant growth in revenue, Fil also has plans for further ambitious growth and recently invested £1.1m in a new warehouse and office complex in Spaldington, East Yorkshire.

The company also invested in new vans, a new website and new software.

Last summer, Filplastic rebranded to Fil to reflect its expanded product range.
