East Midlands Railway issues 'do not travel' warning after multiple incidents because of Storm Franklin

East Midlands Railway (EMR) has issued a 'do not travel' warning for part of their service because of Storm Franklin causing multiple incidents.

The storm has caused widespread travel disruption across the UK, and a number of places and services in Nottingham have been closed on Monday (February 21) as a result.

Nottingham is one of the places that has been issued with a 'do not travel' warning by EMR, telling commuters not to travel between Nottingham and Liverpool Lime Street.

The other 'do not travel' warnings are for services between Derby and Sheffield, and Derby and Matlock.

According to EMR, heavy rain has flooded the railway at Bradway Tunnel (near Sheffield) and there's a points failure at Derby North Junction (near Derby).

This has closed the railway between Derby and Sheffield, Nottingham and Sheffield, and between Derby and Matlock.

This is disrupting services on the London St Pancras, Derby, Sheffield route, the Derby and Matlock route, and the Liverpool, Nottingham, Norwich routes, too.

Trains on the Liverpool and Norwich route are running between Nottingham and Norwich only, with the service between Nottingham and Sheffield suspended until further notice.

There are severe delays to a number of services.

A statement from East Midlands Railway said: "We have lifted ticket restrictions on Monday (February 21) and Tuesday (February 22), and tickets dated February 21 will be valid on February 22.

"If you cannot postpone your travel, you should allow yourself extra time to complete your journey.

"High winds and heavy rain present a risk of further short notice disruption caused by debris being blown onto the tracks (such as trees) and flooding.

"Such incidents usually result in part of the railway being closed whilst teams work to remove fallen trees and fix railway infrastructure, and given the poor weather conditions we cannot guarantee that alternative forms of transport will be available."

A Tweet from the company added: "Multiple incidents are disrupting our network as a result of Storm Franklin. You should not attempt to travel between Derby / Sheffield, Derby / Matlock, or Nottingham / Liverpool Lime Street today. You may use your ticket on Feb 22nd instead."

A good service with minor changes is said to be running between Nottingham and Leicester, and between Nottingham and Mansfield / Worksop, with a good service between Nottingham and Grantham / Skegness.

The ticket office is closed at Beeston station.
