East Midlands movers and shakers at AW Lymn, Cooper Parry, Willshee’s, Tank PR, Cellomatics Bioscience, Cartwright Communications, Avant Homes, Eden PR and UHY Hacker Young

AW Lymn:

Two embalmers at AW Lymn, the fifth-generation, family run Nottingham funeral firm, have passed their British Institute of Embalming examinations. Senior embalmer Olivia Cotterill Wilson, 22, and embalmer Isabel Walton, 23, (both pictured above) have completed the three-year, nationally recognised qualification, taking the company’s total of fully qualified embalmers to 10.

The pair have spent the last three years attending classes in Shropshire, studying for their theory and practical exams. The final practical exam was held at AW Lymn’s Robin Hood House, where they successfully passed with flying colours.

Olivia said: “We were both thrilled when we passed our theory exams, they were very challenging.

“When we plucked up the courage to take our practical, and then passed, we were over the moon. It was such a relief that after four years, we passed it.”

AW Lymn is based in Sneinton, and employs more than 120 staff at 27 funeral homes across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.

Cooper Parry:

Cooper Parry Transactions Services team has been further strengthened with Paul Tallon who is joining to help deliver their ambitious plans for five-fold growth by 2027.

He has joined as a transaction services partner, having previously led transaction services for Azets, in Birmingham, and held senior roles providing transaction advisory services at Grant Thornton and BDO in the Midlands

He will work alongside Timothy Mahapatra, Cooper Parry’s head of deals, focussing on growth opportunities through both senior hires and acquisitions across key UK markets with a particular focus on growing in the London market in the near term.

Willshee’s:

Burton waste and recycling business Willshee’s has appointed Jon Cox as financial controller, a newly created position following on from another record year for the company which saw 20 per cent increase in sales and the need to recruit additional team members across the business.

Jon is a double qualified accountant (FCMA & MAAT) and has 23 years’ experience in business and finance, having worked for a number of high-profile regional businesses including Solmar Villas, Cott Beverages, Thorntons, Castlerock Brewery and the Spirit Group.

As a result, he has built up sector expertise across a number of growth areas for Willshee’s, including manufacturing and engineering, FMCG, leisure, retail and e-commerce.

Jon has latterly focused particularly on developing business systems, adding value, and improving processes and KPI reporting. His biggest achievement to date was helping to grow one business from £4 million to £20 million in under three years and being part of a project to open a factory in the USA.

Tank:

Nottingham digital PR agency Tank has appointed Chris Bogin as its new digital client services director.

Chris has spent his entire career in marketing, specialising in various disciplines at several agencies in London and Nottingham, and has been focussed on digital marketing for the past five years.

He said: “Tank is spoken of very highly by people in the marketing industry, even by its competitors, which says a lot. I want our clients to be delighted with the service and performance they get from us and to stay with us for many years.

“I also want to make sure our clients understand what we do, and how much work goes into delivering for them. If I do that, then we should be a happy agency in many regards.”

Cellomatics Biosciences:

Nottingham-based contract research organisation (CRO) Cellomatics Biosciences has announced the appointment of Professor David Lambert, FRCA and FFPMRCA as its chief scientific officer.

Based in Nottingham, Cellomatics is a specialist preclinical CRO with expertise in five main therapeutic areas – oncology, immuno-oncology, immunology, inflammation and respiratory. It was founded in 2015.

Prof Lambert is a fellow of the British Pharmacological Society and has a wealth of knowledge and expertise that will help to develop a pharmacology specialism at Cellomatics. He will retain a part-time contract at the University of Leicester as Professor of Anaesthetic Pharmacology and Deputy Head of the Cardiovascular Sciences Department.

Cartwright Communications:

Cartwright Communications has continued its expansion with the appointment of three new directors.

Content director Tom Snee and account directors Fran Prince and Katie Nelson have been made company directors following a strong year for the Nottingham-headquartered agency, including its recent listing within PR Week’s Top UK PR agency rankings.

The move follows the appointment of Annie Brafield and Rose Hayes as shareholding directors, and forms part of the agency’s wider strategy for future growth under managing director Liz Cartwright.

Liz said: “Cartwright has a really talented team and it was time to recognise some of our senior key players in recognition of their loyalty and hard work and we will continue to build our directorship in this way.

I am excited for what is to come both in terms of new clients and opportunities but also growing our services in our three locations.”

Alongside the launch of offices in both Birmingham and London during the past 18 months, the agency has also launched new service lines and now boasts a 30-strong team of PR, digital, social media, brand and marketing experts.

Avant Homes:

Nottingham-based housebuilder Avant Homes East Midlands has strengthened its team with three director appointments.

Tony Clarke and Martyn Pask join as construction director and technical director respectively, whilst Nova Eames has been hired as sales and marketing director.

Tony Clarke has more than 45 years’ experience in the construction and housebuilding sectors. In his new role, he is responsible for leading and supporting the region’s construction, customer care and development teams.

With more than 23 years’ experience in housebuilding, Martyn Pask, who joins from Redrow Homes, will oversee housetype and development design and support the region's land, commercial, construction and site management teams during various stages of build.

Nova Eames, who joins from Persimmon Homes, has 25 years’ experience of house selling. She is leading the region’s sales and marketing team and is focused on helping and guiding people through the homebuying process.

Avant Homes East Midlands has eight live developments and the Avant Homes Group operates across the Midlands, north of England and Scotland from eight regional operating businesses.

The housebuilder employs more than 600 people with ambition to grow further across its existing regions and beyond, creating communities and providing employment opportunities for many.

It has a medium-term strategic objective to sell more than 6,000 new homes a year.

Eden PR:

Nottingham-based Eden PR has announced the promotion of two of its digital and PR account executives.

The agency, established in 2000, has grown to a 14-strong team with a roster of B2B and B2C clients spanning logistics, property, education, funeral services, recruitment and HR and professional services.

As part of its growth strategy Daisy Bradford and Rosie Vacciana-Browne will now step up to senior digital and PR account executives with responsibility for supporting and guiding new starters as they settle into the team.

The duo, who both joined Eden in 2021, have and demonstrated their skills across media relations, social media, emerging media and digital PR, while showing passion and commitment to their clients’ broader communications programmes.

UHY Hacker Young:

The Nottingham office of national accountancy firm UHY Hacker Young has promoted Dave Allum to the role of partner, following more than 20 years of loyal service at the firm.

Dave joined UHY’s Nottingham office in 2002 as an audit senior, progressing through the ranks and a range of roles to become one of seven Nottingham partners.

Assisting the firm’s client base with audit and accounts, Dave has developed his specialism of supporting owner-managed businesses with their complex needs, including the nuances of charitable organisations.

He said: “As a father to two children with disabilities, I am incredibly grateful to the support that UHY continues to provide to enable me to prioritise their needs and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

“Despite being a national firm, we’ve managed to remain true to our values and culture to provide the best environment for the team – a significant reason for why I am proud to have worked at UHY for so long.”
