East Kilbride Thistle boss eyes two new signings to boost survival bid

Stevie McPhillips hopes to boost East Kilbride Thistle’s survival hopes with a couple of new signings this week.

The Jags gaffer strengthened his squad last week with the arrivals of goalkeeper Ross Meldrum and midfielder David McKean.

He still has his eyes on another two additions, but he was remaining tight-lipped about who could be joining them at the Showpark.

McPhillips, whose side were sidelined by the weather on Saturday, said: “I’ve spoken to a couple of boys and we’ll be having a look at them tonight with a view to signing them.

“A couple of midfielders would bolster us and if we get one or two new faces in, it will lift the place as well.

“The boys we are looking at have impressed me, but it’s whether or not we can get them here until the end of the season or not.”

Thistle have a huge match at home to fellow strugglers Girvan on Saturday.

McPhillips’ side are second from bottom in West Region League One and desperate for points.

He added: “It’s up to ourselves to get out of this position.

“I’m not bothered what others teams do. It’s about what we do now and we need to get out of this position without relying on anyone else.

“We’ve got 11 games left and eight of them at home. Our home form has been good and that’s going to be a big thing for us.”
