An East Kilbride health and safety manager has been recognised in the New Year’s Honours List.
Paul Miller, from Westwood, will be awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his efforts to ensure the health and safety of staff and customers at Asda during the pandemic – helping to keep food on the tables of homes across the country.
Paul has been working from home since March, but usually divides his time between East Kilbride and the firm’s head office in Leeds.
In his crucial role, Paul has assessed more than 40 job roles from across the business, to create an extensive risk management programme, reviewing around 50 chemicals, PPE and equipment.
A senior manager for compliance, he spent significant time reviewing these in all parts of the business to make sure they were safe, allowing the retailer to work as effectively as possible in stores and online.

As well as working extensively with suppliers to make sure the inspection programme was kept up to date and all equipment and machinery was available for use and safe, the 54-year-old played a significant role in ensuring the company could quickly and safely recruit more delivery drivers to help ‘feed the nation’ and increase deliveries to vulnerable customers in our communities.
The father-of-two was among a number of Asda staff recognised.
Married to Catherine, the grandfather-of-one told us: “I am absolutely delighted, proud and humbled to receive such an honour in a year like no other.
“It has been a privilege to work with so many dedicated people to ensure we keep people safe whilst feeding the nation during the pandemic.”
