East Kilbride boss expecting more signings with defenders on his radar

Stevie Aitken is delighted with the “outstanding’ signings he’s made at East Kilbride so far, and expects to announce more this week.

Defenders are next on the Kilby gaffer's ‘wanted’ list, and Aitken says he’s further forward with rebuilding than he hoped at this stage.

Kilby brought in ex-Cumbernauld Colts full-back Richard Kirwan and former Motherwell and Clyde forward Darren Smith in the last week, adding to marquee signings Chris Erskine and Paul Paton, with Kyle Wilkie and Lewis Kidd also on board.

Aitken is delighted with that and said: “The players that have come in have been outstanding. Chris Erskine brings experience of the Premiership in here, and we’ve also brought in Paul Paton and Lewis Kidd.

“Darren Smith is a proven striker, a good experienced player, and has scored a lot of goals over his career.

“We’re looking for two centre-halves as the next bit of recruitment, we’re speaking to a lot of people and there are two or three that might be close.

“We still need a goalkeeper and full-backs as well, and we’ll hopefully have news on that this week.

“We’re looking at every market; Richard Kirwan came in from the Lowland League, which we had good reviews on, an that’s the sort of market we’ll keep looking at as well.

“We’re looking all over, not just Scotland but England as well, and we’re making moves to get the squad complete.”
