East Belfast parade advice as PSNI warns of traffic delays

Drivers are being warned of delays as 20 bands are expected to take part in a parade in East Belfast.

The East Belfast Memorial Parade is scheduled to take place on Saturday evening, June 12, in the east of the city.

According to the Parades Commissions website, 20 bands are set to take part and there are expected to be 800 participants.

Police have said traffic may be disrupted and asked drivers to avoid the route between 7pm and 9pm.

The bands listed as taking part are: Kilcluney Flute Band, East Belfast Protestant Boys Flute Band, Gertrude Star, Rising Sons of Ulster East Belfast, South Belfast Young Conquerors, Freeman Memorial, Shankill Protestant Boys, Fifes & Drums, Ballybeen Young Defenders, Newtownards Protestant Boys, Mourne young defenders, Noel Clarke Memorial Flute Band, Pride of Knockmore Flute Band, Blues and Royals Flute Band, Ballymacarrett Defenders, Parkinson Accordian Band, Braniel Flute Band, Pride of the Hill Carnmoney Flute Band, and Pride of the Raven Flute Band.

It is understood the parade will begin at 7pm from the Belvoir Bar on the Newtownards Road and will go along Ravenscroft Avenue, Beersbridge Road, Clara Street, Castlereagh Road, Beersbridge Road, Cherryville Street, My Ladys Road, and Ravenhill Road.

In a statement, the PSNI said: "Road users are advised to expect delays in East Belfast this evening, Saturday 12 June, due to a parade.

"Traffic may be disrupted in the Cherryville Street, Beersbridge Road, Templemore Avenue, Newtownards Road, Belvoir Street, Newtownards Road and Ravenhill Road areas between 7pm and 9pm.

"Alternative routes are available."
