As we head into November, Black Friday fever is inching towards boiling point.
Bargain-hunters know that the annual shopping bonanza starts much earlier than officially advertised, with discounts whizzing around from the start of the month.
Practically every retailer and store under the sun has skin in the game, from John Lewis and Amazon to London’s biggest and best department stores - like Selfridges.
Oxford Street’s landmark department store is the place to shop for designer Black Friday goods, where the high prices of luxury labels find themselves snipped by the discount scissors. If you’ve been saving up for something special on your wishlist, your moment of glory is around the corner.
When is Black Friday in 2025?
This year, Black Friday officially starts on November 28, the day after the US celebrates Thanksgiving.
When is Cyber Monday?
The sales run through the weekend, with many rounding up by the following Monday, which is December 1 this year. A day traditionally reserved for electronics, it is known as Cyber Monday.
Black Friday origins
It’s a catchy name, but the story behind is a bit murky. Some say it’s down to the colour of the traffic-choked streets when the sales first started in America. Others say it relates to customers and stores being in the black, rather than in debt red. Whatever the truth, the retail phenomenon has gone global.
Why you can trust Standard Shopping’s Black Friday coverage
If you’ve never really shopped the sale before, Black Friday can be a bewildering time. How to tell a good deal from bad, a performative discount from a genuinely dazzling reduction?
Well, stick with Standard Shopping. Not only have we reported on Black Friday for nearly a decade, but we also cover all major sales events worth your attention and money. We will pass on those can’t-miss-’em deals, flash sales and viral shopping moments the moment they come in. Gatekeeping? Don’t know her.
November 28 is ages away! Are there any Selfridges deals to shop now?

SAMSUNG 2023 32-inch The Frame Art Mode Smart TV

The much-hyped Samsung The Frame TV is one of the best art-inspired TVs available. Not only does it genuinely look like a gallery-installed artwork, but it performs impressively too. With detail-crisp 4K resolution, The Frame brings artwork to life in stunning, realistic technicolour. It does so by utilising QLED technology - a backlighting system similar to traditional LED, but with a quantum dot layer to enhance colour and brightness.
Aesthetically the 32-inch screen looks fantastic; when mounted, the chunky art bezels seamlessly blend with the wall, leaving no unsightly gaps. Handily, it also has a single-cable design, so there are no pesky wires to deal with, although getting the TV mounted on the wall does involve some rental-unfriendly drilling. We also appreciated the ingenious anti-reflective matte screen, which minimises distracting glare from overhead lights.
To access artwork, you will need to take out an extra £3.99 subscription to Samsung’s art store, where you can choose between thousands of great quality artworks from the best galleries around the world. It’s considerably more expensive than other 4K QLED TVs of this size, so it’s by no means the best value for money TV. However, if you’re looking for a stylish set that will elevate your living room, this is a real winner.
