Eamonn Holmes takes aim at ex co-stars Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby and says partnership 'is broken fit' after fans' demands

Eamonn Holmes has taken aim at his former co-stars Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby amid continued reports that their friendship is on the brink. The This Morning favourites are reportedly in crisis after reports began to circulate that the pair were 'barely speaking' behind the scenes.

It was claimed that Phillip's pre-planned absence from the programme last month around his brother’s sex abuse trial contributed to a "cooling" of his friendship with Holly. But last week, the 61-year-old issued an unexpected statement.

Phillip told The Sun: "As I have said before, Holly is my rock. We’re the best of friends – as always, she is an incredible support on screen, behind the scenes and on the phone. Holly has always been there for me, through thick and thin. And I’ve been there for her." He added: "The last few weeks haven’t been easy for either of us."

ITV has confirmed that This Morning will go on as planned on Monday (May 15) with Phillip and Holly, 42, at the helm. But ahead of their appearance, their former co-star on the ITV daytime show Eamonn launched a blistering attack on his former colleagues.

The presenter called the partnership 'a broken fit' as he discussed the fallout on his GB News breakfast show on Monday morning. "They may or may not be together on the telly today. The public surely will suss that there's no chemistry, that it's a broken fit between the two of them and that This Morning does not depend on who presents it," he remarked.

Continuing, the 63-year-old added: "It's an institution, it will carry on no matter who presents it and anyone can check the viewing figures, there's no difference between whether they present it or anyone else.'

Eamonn co-hosted This Morning with his wife Ruth Langsford from 2006 until August 2021. The husband and wife duo left when they were replaced by official new Friday hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary in January 2022.

Eamonn's comments come after fans were left issuing their demands to him as he appeared to mock claims he was fighting with Ruth behind closed doors. Holding up a magazine which included the headline 'Ruth fights Eamonn' on Instagram, the TV star captioned the post: "Fights with Ruth? Moi? Who would dare and live to tell the tale? Read all about it."

But it only left fans wanting the married couple back fronting This Morning. @jondonmac_reno_at_20 said: "Great couple , you need to be back on TM." @rebecca.tarry commented: "Get back on TM make it worth watching again x." @cranston.clare begged: "Please itv listen to what your public want!!!!!! Eamonn & Ruth back on this morning."

@katielou.95 replied: "@ruthlangsford and @eamonnholmes you’re missed on this morning! If presenters have to change due to circumstances I won’t watch unless it’s you guys!" @sue.butler.946 pleaded: "Come back to This Morning!" @yvonne.ea.smith added: "Wish u and Ruth had your own show or back on TM - it’s NEVER been the same since you both left!"
