Eagles vs. Jets: 10 players to watch in Week 6 matchup

Philadelphia is 12-0 all time against the Jets and the Birds would like to move to 6-0 with the NFL toughest stretch of games approaching.

In the next 9 weeks, the Eagles will play Miami at home, at Washington, Dallas, and then a gauntlet after the bye week that includes the Chiefs, Bills, 49ers, and Giants.

Philadelphia will be without four starters including Darius Slay, Jalen Carter, Justin Evans and Quez Watkins.

With preparation for the matchup complete, here are ten players to watch.

QB Zach Wilson

The spotlight on Zach Wilson, who has a a 72.3% completion percentage in his last 2 games combined, and joins Mike White as the only Jets QBs with 70% accuracy in back-to-back starts since 2018.

Philadelphia is fifth in scoring (28.2 pts) and they’re led by dual threat quarterback Jalen Hurts, who is 22-1 in his last 23 regular season starts. The Eagles have great balance, ranking second in rushing (164 ypg) and 10th in passing (240.4 ypg).

RB Breece Hall

Twice in five games Breece Hall has rushed for more than 100 yards, most recently last week when he gained 177 yards in the win over Denver.

RB D'Andre Swift

The Eagles’ 2nd-ranked rushing attack led by D’Andre Swift, whose 5.7 yards/carry is 4th-best among backs.

WR Garrett Wilson

Philadelphia has allowed monster numbers to opposing receivers –Vikings’ Justin Jefferson (11-159), the Commanders’ Terry McLaurin (8-86) and the Rams’ Cooper Kupp (8-118).

With Darius Slay out, Garrett Wilson could be in line for a huge day against an Eagles secondary that ranks No. 25 in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game while the defense has allowed 14 touchdowns, No. 23 in the NFL.

WR A.J. Brown

After logging 130 yards in a Monday night win over the Buccaneers, Brown had a 175-yard game vs. Washington and another 127 yards Sunday against the Rams.

According to Reuben Frank of NBC Philadelphia, Brown is the first player in franchise history with 125 or more receiving yards three straight weeks.

Brown will have favorable matchups in the secondary with Sauce Gardner ruled out.

WR Allen Lazard

Lazard is averaging a career-high 15.5 yards/catch, but isn’t seeing the targets from Jets quarterback Zach Wilson.

With Darius Slay out, now would be a good time to feature the veteran wide receiver.

S Tony Adams

The young, athletic safety will play a key role in supporting Bryce Hall deep when he’s matched up on A.J. Brown or DeVvonta Smith.

Adams and Jordan Whitehead will be part of the coverage team on tight end Dallas Goedert.

CB Bryce Hall

New York Jets safety Tony Adams (22) and cornerback Bryce Hall (37) celebrate the sack-fumble by the Buffalo Bills in the second half. The Jets defeat the Bills in overtime, 22-16, in the home opener at MetLife Stadium on Monday, Sept. 11, 2023, in East Rutherford.

The Jets secondary will be thin for Sunday’s matchup.

Cornerback D.J. Reed (concussion) was not cleared and Sauce Gardner did not practice because of an illness, before being ruled out with a concussion.

Bryce Hall will start his second game of the season. Hall took 62-of-63 snaps last week, had 4 tackles and a game-sealing scoop-and-score in the final moments of the team’s 31-21 win.

He’ll be tasked with slowing down Eagles All-Pro wide receiver, A.J. Brown.

CB Bradley Roby

With Darius Slay out nursing a knee injury, Roby will see snaps in the slot and could see time at the outside cornerback spot depending on where Sean Desai plays Josh Jobe and Eli Ricks.
