Eagles of Death Metal cancel tour, Cambridge show

FULL FRONTAL: Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme, of Eagles of Death Metal, who are coming to Newcastle's Cambridge Hotel on April 15.

EAGLES of Death Metal will not be flying into Newcastle at all, Bluesfest Touring has confirmed.

The raucous act had been due to visit The Cambridge in April for a sideshow before coronavirus forced Bluesfest to cancel its main event and reschedule its line-up of artists.

On Thursday the company said the Eagles of Death Metal tour "is not able to be rescheduled and will be cancelled".

Ticketholders have been sent an email with instructions on how to request a refund.

"We are currently cancelling and rescheduling many events, so please bear with us during this process," Oztix said in that email.

"Thank you in advance for your support and patience at this time."

Founded in 1998 by best friends Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age), the Eagles of Death Metal's sound is a combination of bluegrass slide guitar mixed with firing drumbeats from Homme and vocals/guitar from Hughes, who is known for his over-the-top stage antics and audience interaction.

The band - who were performing to a sold-out crowd at the Bataclan in Paris in 2015 when terrorists stormed in and started shooting - are best known for hits Miss Alissa, I Want You So Hard, Wannabe in L.A. and Save a Prayer. They've released four studio albums to date and have toured the world extensively over the past two decades. Their studio album Eagles of Death Metal Present Boots Electric Performing The Best Songs We Never Wrote was released in June last year, featuring 13 covers of songs that have inspired Hughes over the years.

The cancellation follows Patti Smith's withdrawal from a planned Bluesfest sideshow in the Hunter before the COVID-19 pandemic led to widespread postponements.
