Eagles’ James Bradberry didn’t appreciate Giants release

Shortly after Joe Schoen took over as general manager of the New York Giants, it became clear that cornerback James Bradberry wasn’t in the long-term plans.

Schoen openly acknowledged that Bradberry was on the trading block and implied that should a trade partner not be found, the veteran would be released. For that reason, Bradberry remained absent from the team’s offseason workout program.

But days eventually turned into weeks and weeks to months. Before you knew it, the 2022 NFL draft had come and gone and Bradberry remained in limbo.

That mercifully came to an end earlier this month when the Giants finally pulled the plug and released Bradberry. Not too long after, he inked a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.

“First of all, I understand it’s a business. I was putting my business cap on first and understanding that I’m an asset. So I understand that they want something for me, so that was part of the game,” Bradberry told reporters on Tuesday. “Personally, didn’t necessarily like it, but it’s a business at the end of the day and I understand that.”

Business can get ugly at times and it should never be taken personally, but that’s a hard line to walk when you’re the centerpiece. To his credit, Bradberry went very quietly into the night and didn’t take anymore aim at the Giants than that.

“I was very anxious, because of course I didn’t know what decision was gonna be made,” Bradberry said. “So a lot of anxiety throughout that period, but I knew just being patient and waiting, eventually things were gonna shake out and I was gonna be in the right place.”

As far as playing the Giants twice a year from here on out, Bradberry claims to have a wider focus. He says he “looks forward” to playing all 17 games next season, not necessarily just those against New York.
