WASHINGTON _ The crowd arrived to celebrate Dwyane Wade's final D.C. appearance.
Wade, as he has throughout this "One Last Dance" retirement tour, provided ample opportunity for applause.
And, in the end, it left the Miami Heat in particularly good cheer, capping off a successful road trip with a 113-108 victory Saturday night over the Washington Wizards at Capital One Arena.
After victories in Oklahoma City and San Antonio and then Friday night's blowout loss in Milwaukee, the Heat retained their hold on a playoff seed with an effort inspired by Wade's 20-point effort.
The 37-year-old icon was supported by 19 points from Dion Waiters, 18 from Josh Richardson and 16 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists from Bam Adebayo.
Five consecutive points by the Wizards brought Washington within 98-96 and forced a Heat timeout with 6:18 to play.
Wade then converted consecutive jumpers for a 102-97 Heat lead.
But that also is when Kelly Olynyk lost his cool after an offensive foul, shoving Wizards center Thomas Bryant with 5:04 to play, triggering video review, which left both Olynyk and Bryant with technical fouls, after Bryant initially grabbed the ball from Olynyk.
A Jabari Parker transition dunk then was matched by a Wade jumper, putting the Heat up 104-99. An Adebayo three-point play followed for a 107-99 Heat advantage.
But back stormed the Wizards, closing within 109-106 with 1:13 to play on an inside basket by Troy Brown Jr.
Wade then was off on a 3-pointer, as was Washington's Tomas Satoransky on the other end. Off a timeout, the Heat then got an Olynyk dunk with 16.8 seconds left for 111-106 lead.
