DWP to give millions of eligible people up to £1,506 a month

Millions of older people in the UK are set to receive up to £1,506 per month from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) from April.

State Pensions claimants will receive an income boost of 10.1% in the new financial year as part of the annual uprating from the DWP. However, older people also claiming tax-free disability benefits including Attendance Allowance, Disability Living Allowance (DLA), Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Adult Disability (ADP) could also potentially see their income increase to over £1,500 per month.

The Daily Record reports the exact amount someone over 66 will receive depends on a number of factors including the disability benefit, the award rate and the amount of State Pension they receive.

Working out exactly how much more money you will receive can help to plan ahead and and review household budgets. It’s also worth noting that some older people may be entitled to all of the Government’s cost of living financial support package which is set to start this spring.

This includes payments of £900 for those on means-tested benefits, including those claiming Pension Credit, £150 for people claiming disability benefits including PIP, Attendance Allowance and ADP and a £300 pensioner cost of living payment, which will be added to the Winter Fuel Payments 2023/24.

New State Pension amounts

Total per month: Up to £815.40 or £624.80 depending on the number of years’ worth of National Insurance contributions made. You will need 35 for the full New State Pension and 10 for any State Pension payment.

From April:

Full New State Pension weekly rate: £203.85 (from £185.15), £815.40 every four weeks

Basic Old State Pension (Category A or B) weekly rate: £156.20 (from £141.85), £624.80 every flour weeks
