Changes have been made to the dates benefits are paid.
With the New Year falling on a weekend this year, the Department for Work and Pensions has released a list of revised payment dates.
New Year's Day is usually a bank holiday, but because it is on a Saturday this year, the following Monday (January 3) is a 'substitute' bank holiday.

However, this means benefits, such as tax credit, child benefit and universal credit will not be paid at the start of the month.
Here are the revised dates:
Tax Credit payment dates over Christmas and New Year
- Payment due on Monday (January 3): Payment will be made on Friday (December 31)
- Payment due on Tuesday (January 4): Payment will be made on Friday (December 31) (Scotland only
Child Benefit payment dates over Christmas and New Year
- Payment due on Monday (January 3): Payment will be made on Friday (December 31)
DWP revised festive payment dates
- Payment due on Monday (January 3): Payment will be made on Friday, December 31
Payment due on Tuesday (January 4): Payment will be made on Friday, December 31 for all Scottish claimants and January 4 for the rest of the UK
